CPR recertification/Update.
On Friday June 15, 2007, the Fallsgrove Center for Dentistry Dental team took the day off from patient treatment for healthcare provider CPR training. Our staff first watched video training and listened to Dr. John Mechek, our instructor, talk about the most recent updates in CPR. Our staff then practiced on infant and adult manikins refining their skills for choking, airway, and cardiac arrest. Also reviewed and simulated was the AED (automatic external defibrillator) device. At the end of the day each person was tested on their skills and took a written exam. Thank you to Dr. Mechek for his great presentation and instruction. We would also like to thank our dental team for their efforts to always stay current with the latest training in dentistry.
Fallsgrove Hosts Anesthesia Seminar
How to treat dental, oral and facial trauma victims was the subject of a seminar hosted March 7, 2006 by Fallsgrove dentists and oral surgeon Dr. Harlene D. Sandler for physicians assistants and nurse practitioners who work in Shady Grove Hospital’s emergency room.
Emergency room personnel are frequently called upon to treat dental, oral and facial injuries when trauma patients come to the emergency room for treatment. To optimize their ability to anesthetize those trauma patients they turned to our dentists and Dr. Sandler to teach the best techniques and medicines to make these patients more comfortable for emergency treatment.
“This was just an unbelievable presentation” said Lisa Hockman, a nurse practitioner with the Montgomery Emergency Physicians group, the company that is contracted to run the Shady Grove Hospital emergency room. “We see over 90,000 patients a year in the emergency room. They just gave us a wealth of information.”
Dr. M. Gary Greenbaum lectured the group, and Dr. Sandler gave a power point presentation on anatomy. Dr. Stacia M. Krantz provided the hands on demonstration about how and where to give the oral injections.
“Ninety-five per cent of your dental traumas will be so much easier to deal with,” Dr. Greenbaum told the group. He described the use of the best needles, syringes and anesthetic to maximize the comfort for the patients.
The nurse practitioners and physicians assistants said they see dental and facial trauma victims almost every day. They plan to have the dental equipment and anesthetic on hand to facilitate their patient care in the emergency room from now on.
